On Sunday March 14 the National President of the AMVETS Riders Victor " Dutch " Stivason had the privilege to swear a New Member into the PA National Guards, 1/104, E Company, AVN BN, Located in Johnstown Pa.    National President Dutch is a retired Army CWO 3 and had received a call from the local National Guard Recruiter SFC Corey and was ask to perform the ceremony in the absence of his Unit Officer who was out of state for training. 


The New Soldier is PFC Kayla Mc Kinney, a former Marine who lives in Kittanning, PA.   After the ceremony The Riders National President told PFC Mc Kinney about local AMVETS Post  13 and the AMVETS in general.   PFC Mc Kinney was interested in the work AMVETS does for Veterans and was unaware she could join AMVETS .   PFC Mc Kinney  being new to Veterans Service Organizations and not wanting to lose a new member for AMVETS, the National President offered her a free 1 year membership which she accepted along with  membership as a Rider Supporter for the Chapter 13 Riders.


SFC Cory stated he was also interested and should join the AMVETS and AMVETS Riders as he Rides motorcycle and had gone with the Chapter 13 Riders to the local VA Hospital in February.   The National President gave him  two AMVETS membership applications, one for himself and one for his wife a former Armed Services member.  Plans are in the works for the Riders National President along with an Officer from POST 13 to attend a Guard Drill and explain the benefits of AMVETS to the entire unit.


All in All it was a great day for the National Guard, AMVETS, and the AMVETS Riders,  each of whom depend on each other in support of Veterans.

Mike Stivason and Kim Judge present a certificate of appreciation to Erin, the owner of the County Line Tavern.

Treasurer Keith Sedgwick presents a $200 check to the first place winner of the drawing, Todd Dosch.  2nd place winner was Shelly Dinus who received $100, and the 3rd place winner was Sean Stivason, receiving a $50 Walmart gift card.


 

The drawing benefited the Aspinwall VA Hospital.
